Saturday

Here are some terrifically upbeat moments, worthy of celebration (to counter the disappointment of having to postpone my drive to Chicago):

We are in for another sunny day. We've been having a string of them and my walks to the barn have been fabulous as a result.

Then there's Sparrow: so long as I was not going anywhere, I wanted to drive over and watch his first ballet class (he is four years old). But the hours got mixed up in the messaging and by the time I was ready to leave, I got notified that he was just finishing class. Well, bummer, sure, but my daughter sent me a photo of him dancing (see below) and it was so wonderful, because Sparrow has resisted all other forms of physical extracurriculars. He's not exactly sedentary, he just doesn't want to do competitive sports, or outdoor sports in the cold. But in dance class, especially one that ends with a dress-up routine, he seems to have found his delight. Will it last? Who knows, who cares. For now, he is a happy little guy.

Breakfast: I was going to take out yesterday's bread and slather it with butter and jam for a real old fashioned and decadent breakfast, however, I found nothing but crumbs on the counter this morning. I figured Ed had eaten the last of the loaf late at night. And so I made oatmeal...

...only to find out that he had actually sliced up and frozen the bread so that I could eat it in its best form this morning. Ah well, the oatmeal was a healthier choice anyway.

There isn't a question but that we want to ski. The sooner the better. Before the clouds roll in. And so we go to ou local park and it is beautiful! Windy, yes, but brilliant and perfect at just below freezing.

(detour onto Lake Waubesa)

And then, back home, I finally bake, out of my Gateaux cook book. A very pretty orange-almond-yogurt cake (your standard French trilogy) drizzled with a lemon honey glaze.

(Dance is not interested. Thank goodness.)

Fish for supper. We like it and the cats love the leftover scraps! We are a happy bunch!

With love...
