it’s a dog’s world

Really it is. Really truly.

But, I started today. Let it be noted: I finally started work on the ungreat un-American unnovel.

Fifty years from now, when it is finally published, posthumously, you all buy it, right?

    You have completed the hardest part: actually making a start.

    Anne Lamont has a wonderful story in her book on writing: "Thirty years ago my older brother, who was ten years old at the time, was trying to get a report on birds written that he'd had three months to write. The report was due the next day. We were out at our family cabin in Bolinas, and he was at the kitchen table close to tears, surrounded by binder paper and pencils and unopened books on birds, immobilized by the hugeness of the task ahead. Then my father sat down beside him, put his arm around my brother's shoulder, and said, 'Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.'"

    Nina, if your blog is any indication of your talent as a writer, you can't fail to write a wonderful book.

  5. I have become such a fan of your blog. Sometimes I wish you were my mother but mostly I wish I were you. I will definitely buy your book. You inspired me to buy a camera but I've come to realize that what you have is an eye for it. It's not about the camera.
