I am cold in the way that one is cold when it all just isn’t enough.
I’m sitting at Borders, working away (some people work in offices; how boring is that) and my hand reaches toward my nose. It could serve as the cube that chills a summer beverage, it is that ice-like.
Earlier, I had done a brisk sprint through Shorewood, the neighborhood behind Borders. Not cold then, no, not at all (thank you, walking companion, for distracting me from the ice, the snow, the nip in the air).
That was then. Cold now. Really cold.
When I get cold like that, I try to eat something, figuring I need to stoke my body's furnace.
ReplyDeleteIt works pretty well, but really the only reliables are 1) the extra hot soak bath or 2) swathing in several blankets and drinking something hot. Steam rising from the mug works wonders to warm up the nose, while frozen hands wrapped around the mug itself thaw quickly.
Actually, the cold and winter white are both beautiful and refreshing. Maybe perspective makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem being outdoors in the cold. I like most winter sports and I walk quite a bit every day. I HATE THE INDOOR COLD OF PLACES THAT (acc. to me) UNDERHEAT THEIR INTERIORS! HEAR THAT, BORDERS??!!
