deer

Dark, almost completely dark by the time I drive home. Cold, too. The deer are out, brave now, toward the tail end of winter. They look up, see my car, go back to eating. You can’t care about nonthreatening things. I snap a photo, then drive the last mile home.

  1. I used to be the "deer spotter" for a group of college aged kids who would drive between our place of employment in the north woods (a resort) and "the nightlife" (Minocqua). When we saw deer like that, I had to yell "Just grazing!". It was the ones paused in the middle of the road who caused the most concern. Thanks for the memories! :)
