Though it's true that they don't like it when it rains! Who can blame them? Imagine putting your down jacket through the washer and then putting it on without drying it first! This morning, in the light drizzle, our hens looked mightily bedraggled!
It is the last pre-holiday morning. Ed and I have a lovely breakfast in the front room...
...and then I return to my Great Writing Project -- stalled for a while, what with the travel, the essay writing, and yes, Christmas. But as I sit with my laptop at the kitchen table, I look outside and see the hens moving nimbly between the bare raspberry canes and I think -- yeah, it's good to have these winter days that aren't that terribly cold. Even if the gray spell does continue, uninterrupted. (Remember: there are always chocolate covered raspberry gingerbread squares to carry you through!)
Tomorrow, the festivities begin. Or not. Are you in the thick of celebrations? Let me know if you have a minute. I always love hearing from you.
It's Chrustnas Eve here as I write. I still have the second batch of shortbread to turn into bonbons (I just do the wrapping). I am wondering whether to light the tree candles and photograph them as I usually do or leave it until we breakfast by the tree. Friends will come then for stockings and mince pies, before we head off for a family lunch. Every good wish for a lovely day and a wonderful new year. Jean
ReplyDeleteThis sounds lovely, Jean. Merry Christmas from Ohio (Great Lakes state, U.S.)

Merry Christmas, Nina, to you and your family. And treats to the Cheepers and kitties, for sure. :)

Thank you, my two "J" commenters from opposite corners of the world! Jayview -- do you use real candles? We did when I was a little girl... I know, I know: fire hazard! But it was magical!
DeleteMy kids are calling today "the longest day of the year, ever" and are busy on the Norad tracks Santa website. I'm off to the grocery store for last minute things and find myself needing to make MORE cookies since my growing kids have already eaten through close to 100 over the past couple of weeks. Thank goodness they're active! I also have to wrap Santa presents. :) Tonight Braedy and Owen have the world's craziest memorized Christmas program ever, my sister and her family stop by and then we want for Santa. Tomorrow off to Madison for Brian's family's Christmas. I'm still praying for snow! Have a wonderful day, Nina!
ReplyDeleteBusy, busy! My, I remember. :)
DeleteNowadays things are slower for us, and that's good because I'm slower too.
Happy, happy Christmastime with your family!
Joy
Do your guys buy into Santa for real or for real-make-believe?
DeleteNo snow, but on the upside, for the first time in two weeks we're to have SUNSHINE tomorrow! I'll take it! Have tons of fun tonight and tomorrow!
JoyD -- you and Sara share this: you're both mothers of three sons, only there's a bit of an age difference! :)
DeleteThey buy Santa hook, line and sinker, though we had a close call last night when we thought Eli was sleeping, but he wasn't. Whew! And, I saw the sun today and insisted we go outside. What a wonderful, warm gift. I hope you're having a wonderful, Merry Christmas.
DeleteDavid arrives very late tonight - slightly in advance of Santa. He's my youngest and grew up during the *inventive* years when we were poor and he didn't know it except we didn't live oceanfront like so many of his friends. We were close enough, though, with a view of the Pacific and the rackety chorus rising up from Seal Rock. There were no fancy diversions - just the best of which we could offer each other for entertainment with conversation and skits and reading to each other. In other words, I can't wait for him to arrive - we have the best time ever ever.
ReplyDeleteIrene, how beautiful. "the inventive years when we were poor and he didn't know it" ... and all along, David was truly rich with "the best we could offer each other" ... the love of family.
DeleteWishing you a blessed Christmas.
Joy
Is it a long trip for David? May the weather cooperate and may your house be filled with laughter!
DeleteThanks, Joy. :) We have such an easy relationship. He's my sentimental one, too. He was talking about driving down the mountain to go to the Dairy Queen in Jasper for a blizzard - of all things! We sound like hillbillies. *laughing*
DeleteNina, David will be here until Sunday. It's a short trip but all three of my children are returning on January 8th and then again over Presidents' Weekend whenever that is.
Blessings for today and always, dear friends.
To you as well, IreneB! (Is January 8 your birthday?)
DeleteWishing you and the Family the Happiest Christmas ever... including little girl listening in from inside... xoxoxox
