Last moments
…on the Union terrace, to close off the season, our small group gathers.
A gull. What thoughts does a gull have? Students, why do they row boats? Why do they leave mattresses on the lakefront?
The chairs, packed with every and any kind of person in the summer, empty now. Except for her and her loved one.
I am late. The sun is not a presence anymore. We go inside. Freaky wild! Portends of things to come. Tomorrow night. On State Street. The Mad City’s wild night: Halloween.

Oh silly gull. Why do you ask the unanswerable? I mean, why, when I was in Madison a few weeks ago, did I see a torn letter and half-eaten bag of Swedish fish by the lake? These things, we cannot know.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the by, even if it means risking your safety, you MUST take photos of tonight's events!
Jenny: if no photos appear here tomorrow (from tonight) then you may as well assume that Ocean is a thing of the past and that its author got her gut twisted, mangled with her own camera, thrown at her by some drunk who came in from Chicago for the Big State Street Party tonight.
ReplyDelete[Safety precaution: I am taking the tallest, burliest friends I have and they have promised to use fists to defend my honor should the need arise.]
Still waiting for those Halloween pictures. Bring 'em on, baby.
