reconsider

Here is a sentence that would summarize my day: maybe I should move to the coast of Maine, black bears and and dark woods with strange, threatening noises notwithstanding.

The thing is, I used to believe that getting away, through travel, or even moving to a new place, removed you temporarily from the stresses of the day. from boyfriends who dont love you, from the demands on your time and on your mental bandwidth. But changing your environment offers its own stresses. If you move, the pain of that is tremendous. If you travel, so often you come home dead tired. Sleep deprived, weary from packing and unpacking. And of course, there are the black bears in Maine and Millie doesn't like new things.

But there's no denying it -- life is not rosy right now here in south central Wisconsin, despite the fact that I am fully entrenched in planting roses in Steffi's yard. When Ed asked me just now -- cant you lose yourself in some fun activity? You need to find one! -- I was exasperated! I have plenty to do with little time to do it. Kids, dogs, sick friends -- this is my life right now.

("what's wrong with kids and dogs??!")

But, on the upside, the morning walk was misty-lovely...

Breakfast was lovely...

And since Friday is Millie doggie daycare day, I was able to plant a rose. This was no small production. The rose is supposed to climb around an obelisk, but I chose to get a cheap obelisk rather than a solid heavy one and I have this terrible feeling that the rose (Polka, which is a heavy climber) will topple it. So I pounded it with a hammer to get it deeper into the ground and in so doing, the screws came off and the obelisk wobbled even more. Ah well, this is a problem I can postpone for another couple of years. It'll take that long for the rose to grow high enough to start messing with the dumb cheap obelisk.

Another gardening task for me today? Watering the front garden. We have 40% chance of rain in the forecast, but we've had that before and the rain never came -- why should it -- 40% means more likely it will not rain. Watering was actually very pleasant.

(a rose to admire)

Less pleasant was picking up my Alpine Blue car. Millie was definitely pleased -- she never got used to riding in the front seat of the slick new car. And I was too -- my music, my door opener, all there. But the bill for Henry's folly? close to $1000. And then of course there were the usual maintenance charges. I've always disliked throwing money into a car, but I do realize that Alpine Blue is now considered an old-ish car and the repairs will only start to multiply.

(Millie, happy do be home after riding in these awful cars!!!!!)

In the evening, since I could not step out and pick a bucketful of wild blueberries (that's a Maine thing, right?) I consoled myself with a hefty bar of good chocolate. Millie looked to see if I would share and when I didn't, she dozed off.

with so much love...
