one final day of August

We’re getting sloppy around here. We forget bedtime, wake up time, mealtime, rest time – it’s all getting rather fuzzy.

He does this, I do that, Isis interrupts, or not – nothing is predictable, nothing is regular.

It’s time (for me) to go back to school. You can see it: fall is in the air.

And I do (go to school) today. Faculty have a full day of meetings and so I rev up Rosie and get going. Early.

And when I get home, I’m tired. I had seen my doc this past week – that back issue was getting to be no small thing – and she told me basically this: move around a lot and avoid becoming obese. Well yes, fine, but in the mean time my back aches and I’m spent.

And so maybe tomorrow I’ll revise my game plan and maybe we’ll play tennis more and I’ll bike more and all good things will flow, but toady, I came home, I watered my overheated babies for one whole hour and I cooked dinner (when you’re tired, there’s always stirfry...)

... and then I could do no more.

  1. Move more than you do....really?! Hope you heal soon.

  2. I'll share William's motto when he's facing challenges: "I can do it! I can do it! I can do it!" -- and repeat, until said challenge has been overcome.

  3. Diane -- Honestly! I move more than most anyone I know, have a super low BMI -- I mean, there's no pleasing these people!

regan -- Yes, I say a version of such magic words until I notice that somewhere after the fiftieth "I think I can," I fall asleep.

  4. I wondered if you'd have problems parking Rosie on campus given what I've read in the newspapers. And Diane is right...who moves more than you?

  5. Donna -- I've never parked on campus because UW always required a permit for that and I'm too cheap to pay the fee. I park it a block or two away, toward Dayton. I can do that until next April - when the city of Madison will be imposing moped parking restrictions. Don't get me started on that one. It's an unfair clamp down on mopeds! Even as a moped rider (and even a reckless moped rider) will never ever do one hundredth the damage (in an accident or to the environment) as, say, an SUV.

  6. I would be insulted if I were YOU and that doc told you to move more...doesn't he/she read your blog? C'mon. They are never satisfied. They keep lowering the levels that are "healthy" but this is just to keep you coming back - more money in their pockets. I can remember when a 120/80 blood pressure was considered perfect, now it's high and they want you on meds - don't believe anything they tell you.

  7. Bex -- I have to say I agree with you! Ed thinks I'm too quick to ask for advice. Do the obvious and quit fretting -- would be his motto. Oh, and don't be so darn *clean* -- he'd throw that in as well.
