My music for this morning came from an Apple playlist of French Chanson. Lovely lyric driven songs from the tradition of French cabaret of yore. I know many of these. I collected albums of such music back in the 70s and even in the early 80s. Add a baguette, a hunk of cheese, and a glass of wine and I felt I was in France. (Baguettes were hard to come by in those years, but I kept searching.) There was a song on the playlist that was new to me and it sounded so pretty and so fitting for these days. Its title is my Subject heading. I wont post all the lyrics (because they're in French and besides, just looking at the song's title -- they are predictable). Here's just one translated verse:
There's a petal and a thorn
There is beauty and there's sorrow
And we all must face tomorrow
Like a rose.
If you want to listen to it, here it is:
If you look for connections in your life, you will find them!
It was, for a while anyway, a most perfect morning. Millie now demands a walk around the block (it's a very long block) rather than her past up and down and back again, and I am happy to give her the extra sniffing moments. And then we have breakfast.

I will say this:I really do not understand why there are so many unfriendly dogs in this neighborhood and perhaps in all neighborhoods, because ours is a good mix of young and old and those inbetween. Of the maybe dozen dogs that inhabit this block (as I said, it's a long block) not one is friendly. All of them either cross the street or turn the corner when they see us coming. This drives her (and me) nuts. She just wants to sniff butts. But no, the dog owners want to avoid encounters and it's not because she is a threat -- she is pretty much the smallest of the lot of them and her tail is up and wagging.
I feel like the parent of a child whom everyone avoids at recess.
This is one of many reasons why I take her to doggie daycare. She loves playing -- with dogs and with humans. There are no rejections at doggie daycare. Everyone is her BFF.
I have a full day while she's sauntering about at Happy Dogz. Much of it is weekly stuff -- groceries, compost, etc. And much of it is in the yard: mow lawn, move plants, etc. Catch up stuff that needs to be done because after today, I wont have full days where Millie is engaged in her play and I have no childcare obligations.
And, as has been the case repeatedly this month, suddenly I do not have a full day at all. Many texts and emails later I have a paltry few hours to fix problems in Steffi's Garden. And because I've put him off for so long I finally agree to have Ed interrupt my gardening so that he can move the remaining bookshelf and cabinet from the farmhouse to Steffi's House and of course he needs help with that and besides, he needs a beard trim.
I do get most of this accomplished but it is not a fun, easy going day. It is a crazy rushed day and at the end of it all, I have to ask yself why. Why rush like this? Does any of it require the urgent attention I bestow on it? I could have done none of it and read a book all day in my rose garden. L'Important C'est la Rose...
with so much love...
