trivial pursuits
If occasionally you can distract yourself with something completely inconsequential, do so. It’s so refreshing to indulge in (one’s own) stupidity.
Today, for example, in between classes, I thought about hair. I began to think that perhaps I should tighten my belt around my scalp. I believe Jason, my hair man, is as talented as they come. But talent is expensive.
So, cut it less? Touch it up not at all? Maybe. If no one in the world cares about the color/length of your hair, why should you?
In the afternoon, between classes, I looked around me. People have interesting hair.
curly hair in café
60s hair on State Street
very blond hair on Bascom Mall
I have to say, it was a cold day. So that very many people, even student type people, covered their scalp. This is odd, given that so many insist on staying with the short pants. I suppose one does lose heat more front the head than from the shins. Still...

The email just went around my block last week "does anyone know a good, CHEAP hairdresser?" You're not the only one having those thoughts.
ReplyDeleteNo more belt tightening! Our economy will only further decline. Think of the argonauts. Keep the fleece golden-rouge.
ReplyDeleteSince moving to Utah, I have tried all sorts of stylists from the pretty darn cheap to very expensive (for me at least). I've also tried growing out my hair and cutting it less to save money among other reasons. I still think having a good haircut (color if you must-I'm not there yet) is worth it. Every time I look in the mirror I feel better now that I'm getting it cut regularly by a decent stylist. So, perhaps there is someone cheaper and equally talented, but best of luck in your endeavor to find that person. It's literally taken me over a year to find someone I trust and now she's off on maternity leave! Oh the drama.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Cinema Salon (I think that's the name) used to have really talented, not very expensive girls. They were located right next to the Stadium Bar on Randall, I think.
I'll bet I can guess what your daughters would have to say on this topic. Stick with Jason or else give the rest of us his phone number.
