a busy Friday

Typically, people love Fridays. You begin to wind down. I'm sure productivity is at its lowest then, because who wants to put in an all out effort toward the end of the week? I remember in the years that I taught, few of us wanted to hold classes on Fridays because students would grudgingly attend them. That habit of winding down at the end of the week has stayed with me. I don't like to clutter my Fridays.

So why is today so crazy??

A rescheduled appointment required a trip to the hospital (because that's where the proper testing tools are located). Just getting in and out of that monstrosity (our university hospital building is huge -- the size of a village!) requires patience and time. And once I was done with that, I was close enough to the grocery store that I decided to do our weekly shopping then and there. By the time I got home and put stuff away, it was the kid-pick-up hour.

Of course, the early morning proceeded quietly. A walk (to feed the animals) without rain. Nice!

It's a cooler weekend and so most of the crab apples are still withholding their bloom. Nonetheless the pink buds are there already, just waiting for a sunny day. The daffodils are fading but the few tulips are holding their own. The lilac is days away from exploding. Things are looking good.

Ed came down for breakfast. I joined a flower farmer CSA this spring and we had our first wee bouquet there, on the table. Lovely stuff!

And then it was just one mad dash.

Of course, for the kids, Fridays remain joyful. A weekend ahead. Yes!! I tried to suggest that the weekly ice cream could be postponed to a sunnier day, but the opposition to this idea was fierce. Guess who won that one!

I may as well end the day with more un-Friday evening behavior. Why not vacuum the upstairs and wash the blankets that cover the couches (to protect them from cat hairs)?

I have the deep satisfaction of knowing that much was accomplished on this day. Still, it seems so wrong to dump so much on the last official day of the work week. Even if you're not exactly employed anymore. Slow-go Fridays. Has a nice sound to it!

with love...
